This is a comfortable family neighborhood just west of the University District. Its hallmark is an abundance of beautiful bungalows and Craftsman-style homes from the 1920s to '40s and the distinctive shopping and entertainment area at its center.
Wallingford has a leisurely pace, but also boasts 45th Street, one of the city's most vibrant thoroughfares. Here you'll find the classic Dick's Drive-In hamburger joint, movie theaters, small restaurants and diners, and Wallingford Center, an artsy shopping mall housed in a converted old school. The Burke-Gilman Trail, a paved path favored by bicyclists and runners, begins at nearby Gas Works Park.
